Your First Free Lesson

Visualization is the key to success in the field of filmmaking. The best thing about the visualization is that you do not have to spend any money for it. So, the good place to begin with the process of filmmaking is creating a mental picture about what would be the form your movie, how would it sound and dream about its financial success. Filmmaking is the process of making a film, from an initial story idea or commission through scriptwriting, shooting, editing and finally distribution to an audience. Film is considered by many to be an important art form; films entertain, educate, enlighten and inspire audiences.

The visual elements of cinema need no translation, giving the motion picture a universal power of communication. Think Only Positive you have to take no notice of the negative people and negative thoughts once you decide that you are in for filmmaking. Every time you should have the confidence about the success of the movie. When you are visualizing your movie you are not wasting your time. Instead, you have begun doing work on it. Any film can become a worldwide attraction, especially with the addition of dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue. Films are also artifacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them.

An entire production cycle typically has three parts. The first part consists of development. The second part comprises preproduction and production. The third part, consists of post-production and distribution. Hence, the Filmmaking production cycle consists of five main stages:

Development
Pre-production
Production
Post-production
Sales and distribution

1. Development :
This is the stage where an idea is fleshed out into a viable script. The producer of the movie will find a story, which may be from books, other films, true stories, original ideas, etc. Once the theme, or underlying message, has been identified, a synopsis will be prepared.

2. Pre-production :
In preproduction, the movie is designed and planned. The production company is created and a production office established. The production is storyboarded and visualized with the help of illustrators and concept artists. A production budget will also be drawn up to cost the film.

• The director, who is primarily responsible for the acting in the movie and managing the creative elements.
• The assistant director manages the shooting schedule and logistics of the production among other tasks.
The location manager finds and manages the film locations. Most pictures are shot in the predictable environment of a studio sound stage but occasionally outdoor sequences will call for filming on location.
• The director of photography (DOP) or cinematographer creates the photography of the film. He or she cooperates with the director, director of audiography (DOA) and assistant director (AD).

3. Production :
The movie is actually created and shot. More crew will be recruited at this production stage such as the property master, script supervisor, assistant directors, production sound mixer, stills photographer, picture editor, and sound editor. These are just the most common roles in filmmaking and the production office will be free to create any unique blend of roles to suit a particular film.
The director will then check to see if the shot was good or not. The script supervisor, sound and camera teams mark every take as either good (G) or not good (NG) on their respective report sheets. Every report sheet records special facts about each take. When shooting is finished for the scene, the director declares a "wrap." The crew will "strike," or dismantle, the set for that scene. The director approves the next day`s shooting schedule and a daily progress report is sent to the production office. This includes the report sheets from continuity, sound and camera teams. Call sheets are distributed to the cast and crew to tell them when and where to turn up the next shooting day.

4. Post-production :
Post-production occurs in the making of audio recordings, films/movies, photography and digital art, videos and television programs. It is the general term for all stages of production occurring after the actual recording and ending with the completed work.
Post-production is in fact many different processes grouped under one name. These typically include:

Editing the picture / TV program
Editing the soundtrack.
Writing and recording the soundtrack music.
Adding visual special effects - mainly computer generated imagery (CGI)

Editor Take Charge in Post Production Step Post-production stage of the filmmaking process involves the assembly of the film by the editor. In the modern times, two kinds of workflow variants are prevailing. In the first variant, only the film is used while in the other method video is also used along with the film.

5. Sales and distribution :
A film distributor is an independent company, a subsidiary company or occasionally an individual, which acts as the final agent between a film production company or some intermediary agent, and a film exhibitor, to the end of securing placement of the producer's film on the exhibitor's screen. In the film business, the term "distribution" refers to the marketing and circulation of movies in theaters, and for home viewing (DVD, Video-On-Demand, Download, Television etc). Once this is accomplished, the distributor then secures a written contract stipulating the amount of the gross ticket sales to be paid to the distributor (usually a percentage of the gross after first deducting a "floor", which is called a "house allowance"), collect the amount due, audit the exhibitor's ticket sales as necessary to ensure the gross reported by the exhibitor is accurate, secure the distributor's share of these proceeds, and transmit the remainder to the production company (or to any other intermediary, such as a film release agent). Ordinarily there are standard blanket contracts between a distributor and an exhibitor that apply to all films subsequently booked, although on occasion some of the terms, such as the percentage of the gross to be paid by the exhibitor, may be varied with regard to a particular film.

If the distributor is handling an imported or foreign-language film, it may also be responsible for securing dubbing or subtitling for the film, and securing censorship or other legal or organizational "approval" for the exhibition of the film in the country/territory in which it does business, prior to approaching the exhibitors for booking.
